Nurse Care & Clinics

Our nurses are the backbone of our practice

At Newnham Court Vets we pride ourselves on our outstanding network of veterinary nurses. They are all involved with every aspect of caring from your pet whether that is at one of our clinics, or the invaluable work they do behind the scenes (which often goes unseen).

Every day of the week our nurses are dedicated to meeting the specific needs of your pet. They work hand in hand with the veterinary surgeons throughout the hospital and vow to do anything in their power to make your pet as comfortable as possible; sometimes that simply means a cuddle.

If your pet requires an operation one of our nurses will be on hand throughout the entire process. They will:

  • Prepare your pet for theatre

  • Prepare the surgical equipment

  • Sterilise the surgical environment to maintain exceptional hygiene standards

  • Provide the veterinary surgeon with sterile supplies such as an operating gown and gloves

  • Assist and monitor your pet whilst they’re under anaesthetic

  • Help with radiography

  • (Upon occasion) act as a surgical assistant; particularly with orthopaedic cases

Our hospital ward has dedicated nurses who continue to monitor your pet whilst they recover from surgery. These nurses will ensure that your pet is as pain free and comfortable as possible at all times. They will also care for outpatients, administer medication, exercise patients and most importantly, provide them with plenty of tender love and care.

Before your pet undergoes surgery, one of our nurses will admit them in the morning. They will make sure that they have all of the necessary information regarding your pet and will reassure you that your pet will be well cared for.

When you come to collect your pet you will see the same nurse. This means that you will be given all of the pre-operative information you require from the nurse that has taken your pet through their entire surgical experience.

Our nurses hold general consultations throughout the day. These consultations include:

  • Extensive information about various areas of animal care

  • Nail clipping

  • Weight watchers information

  • Preventative health information

  • Microchipping

  • Post-operative checks

  • Removing stitches

  • Grooming

  • Changing dressings

  • Taking blood samples

  • Dental health information

  • Nutritional information

  • Flea and worm control

  • New animal advice

Those who are members of our Healthy Pet Club will enjoy the company of our clinical nurses on a regular basis.

If you would like more information about the roles of our nurses, or to book an appointment to discuss an aspect of your pet’s health with one of them, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
